Creative Writing

This is where the magic happens — when the pen really takes on a life of it’s own and your imagination is set alight.

“Every secret of a writer’s soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works.”
~Virginia Woolf

Whilst studying a Master of Arts in Creative Writing at The University of Sydney I was lucky enough to be taught by Dr Sue Woolfe. She taught me some inspiring creative writing techniques, that most people call ‘free writing’ or even ‘stream of consciousness’. Sue coins the term ‘loose construing’. These techniques validated how I was already, intuitively writing.

I continued to explore and discovered, from my training in meditation, that writing and meditation are a match made in heaven. I developed a toolkit of techniques that help me to write authentically and creatively.

The techniques are designed to stimulate creativity, mainly for fiction writing, but they can help with other forms of writing including: non-fiction, letters, poems, obituaries, memoirs, and even as therapy to overcome trauma or problems.

I now run courses in community colleges and in corporate businesses, teaching my tried and tested techniques to other aspiring and established writers. Business writing is becoming more informal, friendly and creative. So if you writing is part of your job, these skills are invaluable for broadening your language skills, avoiding writers’ block and preventing your writing from becoming stale.

“It’s none of their business that you have to learn to write. Let them think you were born that way.”

~ Ernest Hemingway
